Where does the spotlight belong?

As a school administrator or in fact any position of leadership, you are always in the spotlight. Everything is always a reflection of you and that is okay because most of the time, that explains what type leader you are. People have expectations for you in this position and you have to govern yourself accordingly. The spotlight may be negative or positive. What does an effective leader do as it relates to the spotlight?

Truthfully speaking you should not be the one always selfishly putting yourself in the spotlight. Everyone has heard the saying/song “may the work I’ve done speak for me.” It is not always about you. “Stay true in the dark and humble in the spotlight”-Harold B. Lee. So where does the spotlight belong? The spotlight belongs to those you lead. In my case, the students and teachers. As a school principal I know the importance of the teachers and students and without them some of the spotlight wouldn’t shine. I get a great feeling inside just seeing my students and teachers do well. I love to see them in the spotlight. As for me, people who shine from within don’t need the spotlight!!!

Ready to tackle another great school year and put the spotlight on some great teachers and students!!!
