People always ask how do you travel so much? Do I have use a travel agent? How do I have extra money to travel? Well I do not mind sharing some information about my travel habits and income opportunities. I previously talked about saving. Be intentional with your saving. It can not be a second thought. First thing is that I have travel accounts. I opened a savings and checking account just for travel. I have money transferred into the travel savings account from my regular checking monthly (a set amount), plus my check from my additional employer (I will discuss my part time employment in this post) goes into the travel account. I got this second income to have more travel experiences. When traveling I use only that debit card. If you have travel reward credit cards, it is good to use those too, but be sure to use the money from your travel account to pay the amount you used immediately after it posts. You avoid a great deal of interest and still get the benefits from your credit card.
Okay, income opportunities. There are many people who have 2nd incomes and I am no different. Several years ago I decided I wanted to travel more and a great opportunity came up while I was on social media. It was a work-at-home (WAH) position. Many people question and wonder how legit WAH positions truly are. I did too! I decided to see what this position was all about and applied. Months later I was working for Hilton. I started out working as a reservation specialist. You would not believe it, but for over a year, I worked my full-time principal job plus worked online at night full time!! Yes , 40 hours a week. I was working from 5:00PM-1:30AM 5 days a week. Yes, quite challenging! Prior to this I was not sleeping well so I figured why not make money while I am awake all this time. I knew it was not healthy, but I loved it. I excelled in this position and always exceeded expectations. I received commission and also other financial incentives. After a year I was offered a corporate specialist position (still WAH) and decided to go part-time. I have been part-time since then and I have what is called BAS-build-a-schedule, where I build my own work hours. I build my schedule around my first priorities (son, school activities, family, sorority, vacations, events, etc.) I say all this because with this position gives me great travel benefits and flexibility. Employees receive great discounts on rooms!! You would not believe how great! So with that being said, find income opportunities that fit your needs and makes financial sense. I am not trying to push you to work for Hilton.
There are many WAH positions besides Hilton. I have a few people I know that work for American Express and Enterprise also. Explore these positions and any others. If you have a college student, have them check out positions that Apple offers on various campuses.
Below is a link to search for jobs at Hilton. Keep checking for WAH positions. This also links to onsite positions. If you prefer to work at a location, opportunities are there and the benefits are the same. There are other great second income opportunities (Mary Kay, Avon, retail stores, selling things you make or bake, boutiques, online stores with ebay or amazon, etc. …..) Please comment some others. Sharing with others puts others in positions to be successful.
Don’t just have a second income to have one. Set a goal for the income from the job. If you feel you need it just to make ends meet, you may need to consider others things that are impacting your spending. Evaluate where exactly your money from you main job is going. If you are spending it on unnecessary things, then a second income will not help. It will just continue the cycle.
Update: 1/8/17
